How to Forward a Package Internationally: A Safe Shopping Checklist

International package forwarding can help you buy an eligible product from an overseas retailer, have it delivered to a local receiving address, and then send it to your country. It is useful when the exact item is not available locally and the retailer does not offer a suitable direct-delivery option. It is not the right answer for every order, though. Before you buy, check the retailer, the exact item, the full packed and landed cost, and the return route.

First, check local and retailer-direct delivery

A forwarding address creates an extra leg in the order, so it should solve a real access problem. Search for the exact model, edition, size, colour and seller in your country. Then check whether the retailer offers direct international delivery for that exact item. A familiar brand name or a lower shelf price overseas does not prove that forwarding is the better route.

Compare the complete choices side by side. A local order may include easier returns and local consumer protections. Retailer-direct delivery may be simpler because the seller manages the international leg. Forwarding may make sense when the exact item is genuinely unavailable through those routes and the additional cost and responsibility are acceptable.

How international package forwarding works

1. Create your account. Your account provides the receiving-address details and reference you must use for the selected origin.
2. Choose the correct origin. Match the retailer’s domestic delivery country to Jetkrate’s US, UK, Australian or New Zealand receiving address.
3. Check the retailer and item before paying. Confirm that the retailer accepts the address and that the product is eligible for the planned route.
4. Enter truthful checkout information. Use the receiving address exactly as shown in your account, while keeping billing and customer details accurate.
5. Wait for warehouse receipt and processing. The retailer’s delivery confirmation and Jetkrate’s warehouse receipt are separate events.
6. Review the parcel and available options. Packed size, weight, item type, carrier rules and destination determine which options are available.
7. Choose and pay for onward delivery. Complete accurate customs information and follow the parcel through the international leg.

This is package forwarding for purchases, not a generic courier quote for an already-owned parcel. If your task is sending a personal parcel, moving household goods, arranging pallets or exporting business freight, use a service built for that job.

Allow for a gap between the retailer’s delivery notice and the parcel appearing in your Jetkrate account. The first notice means the retailer or its carrier says the order reached the local address; the second means the warehouse has identified and processed it. Accurate account details and address references help that matching process. If a retailer splits one order into several boxes, each parcel may arrive and be processed separately.

Will the retailer accept the order?

A retailer may accept domestic delivery but still review or reject an order because of its payment profile, product restrictions, seller rules or use of a commercial receiving address. A successful address entry is not approval, and silence in a retailer policy is not an endorsement of forwarding.

Use your real name, truthful billing information and the exact Jetkrate address and account reference. Never invent a domestic billing address or change facts to get around a checkout control. If payment fails, the retailer cancels the order, or a seller says it will not deliver to the address, stop. Package forwarding does not create a right to buy from a retailer.

Can the exact item be forwarded?

Eligibility depends on the product, its ingredients and batteries, the warehouse, the available carrier, the route and the destination country’s rules. Two products from the same store can have different outcomes. A simple shirt may be straightforward while perfume, aerosols, loose batteries, food, plants or an oversized item may be restricted or unsuitable.

Do not rely on an old list, another shopper’s order or a retailer’s domestic-delivery approval as proof that the onward international route will be available.

What will the whole route cost?

Look beyond the retailer’s product price. Your comparison should include:

• the item price and any retailer sales tax;
• domestic delivery to the receiving warehouse;
• payment or currency-conversion costs;
• the parcel’s packed actual and dimensional weight;
• Jetkrate service, handling and optional-service charges where applicable;
• the selected international delivery charge; and
• possible destination duty, tax, clearance or carrier fees.

The retailer’s product dimensions may not match the packed parcel. Protective packaging can increase size, and international services may charge by whichever is higher: actual or dimensional weight. If you are buying from several stores, do not assume that consolidation will always reduce the final cost. Combining parcels may change the packed dimensions, available carriers, handling work and return options. Compare the separate and combined choices only after the parcels and services are known. The sound decision is the route with an acceptable complete cost and risk, not simply the route with the fewest boxes.

Plan the return before you buy

Returns are easiest to think through while the product is still in the retailer’s cart. Read the seller’s return window, condition rules, exclusions and refund method. Check who pays return postage and where the item must be sent. A retailer’s prepaid domestic label may work only from the original delivery country, not from your final destination.

If the product is high-risk for fit, colour, compatibility or damage, the possible international return cost can change the decision. • shop with a US receiving address for eligible US retailer orders;
• shop with a UK receiving address for eligible UK retailer orders;
• shop with an Australian receiving address for eligible Australian retailer orders; or
• shop with a New Zealand receiving address for eligible New Zealand retailer orders.

Do not choose an origin simply because it appears closer or cheaper. The retailer must deliver the exact item there, the address must be entered accurately, and the onward route must be suitable.

Five-minute go or no-go checklist
