How to Ship Liquids

How to Ship Liquids Internationally

Liquids are one of the most common problem categories in international shipping. Some are harmless everyday products, but many are restricted because they can leak, spill, break, react, freeze, pressurise or be classed as dangerous goods.

Before sending any liquid to Jetkrate, check whether it can be shipped at all.

Why liquids are restricted

Couriers and airlines may restrict liquids because of:

  • Leakage risk
  • Flammability
  • Alcohol content
  • Pressure changes during air transport
  • Chemical composition
  • Fragile containers
  • Destination import rules
  • Dangerous goods classification

A product can be sold legally by a retailer and still be unsuitable for international forwarding.

Common liquid products to check

Always check before ordering:

  • Perfume and fragrance
  • Nail polish and remover
  • Essential oils
  • Cleaning products
  • Reed diffuser refills
  • Alcohol and beverages
  • Skincare or cosmetics in liquid form
  • Paints, inks and dyes
  • Supplements, syrups and food liquids

Some items may be completely prohibited. Others may require special handling that Jetkrate does not offer.

Can Jetkrate ship liquids?

Jetkrate can only forward liquids when they are accepted by the relevant warehouse, courier, airline and destination country. Many liquids cannot be shipped through standard international parcel networks.

Do not assume a liquid can be forwarded just because a retailer will deliver it to your Jetkrate address.

What happens if a liquid cannot be shipped?

If a liquid arrives and cannot be forwarded, your options may be limited. Depending on the item and location, it may need to be returned to the retailer, disposed of or handled under special instructions. Fees may apply.

This is why checking before ordering is important.

How to reduce risk

Read the product ingredients and safety warnings. Avoid flammable, pressurised, alcoholic, corrosive or chemical products. Choose non-liquid alternatives where possible, such as solid balms, powders, bars or tablets.

Ask before you buy
