Difference Between Shipped vs Out for Delivery
Tracking updates can sound similar even when they mean different things. Two of the most commonly confused statuses are “shipped” and “out for delivery”.
The difference is straightforward: shipped means the parcel has entered the delivery process. Out for delivery means the parcel is in the final local delivery stage and is expected to be delivered soon, often that day.
What shipped usually means
When a parcel shows as shipped, it usually means one of the following:
- the sender has handed the parcel to the carrier
- the shipping label has been created and accepted
- the carrier has scanned the parcel into its network
- the parcel is moving between depots, hubs or countries
Shipped does not mean the parcel is close to your door. It may still have several transport, customs or sorting stages ahead.
What out for delivery usually means
Out for delivery is a later tracking status. It usually means:
- the parcel has reached the local delivery depot
- it has been assigned to a delivery run
- a local driver or delivery operation is handling it
- delivery is expected soon, often on the same day
This is the stage where someone should watch for delivery instructions, building reception, security access, safe-place requirements or missed-delivery notices.
Why tracking can still change
Out for delivery is a strong sign that delivery is close, but it is not an absolute guarantee. Drivers can run out of time, access can fail, weather can interfere, or a parcel may be re-scanned for delivery the next business day.
Likewise, shipped can stay unchanged for a while if a parcel is moving between facilities without frequent scans.

What this means for Jetkrate customers
For Jetkrate customers, tracking wording may vary by courier and route. Read the scan history as a timeline rather than relying on one single status.
If a parcel is out for delivery, check the delivery location and access details. If a parcel only shows as shipped, allow time for the next scan unless the tracking has been inactive beyond the expected window.
When to contact support
Contact support if the tracking appears stuck for an unusual period, shows a delivery problem, has an incorrect destination, or is marked delivered but you cannot locate the parcel.
Include the tracking number and Jetkrate reference so the issue can be checked faster.

The plain-English takeaway
Shipped means the parcel is on its way. Out for delivery means it has reached the final local delivery stage. They are not the same status, and understanding the difference makes tracking much less confusing.
